General Bits is a column loosely based on the PostgreSQL mailing list pgsql-general.

General Bits
Two Year Anniversary Sabbatical 14-Nov-2004

About this time two years ago I began the endeavor of writing a weekly column of items gleaned from pgsql-general, the PostgreSQL general topic mailing list. In the beginning the mailing list content was followed closely but lately there have been more examples, explanations and original writing.

The increased content has been very satisfying but it has also been very time consuming at the expense of both my "real" life and work and contributions to other PostgreSQL projects.

With these things in mind, General Bits will be going on sabbatical until the beginning of January 2005.

I welcome feedback from you regarding General Bits, especially now, so I can determine how best to serve the PostgreSQL community with this site. Opinions regarding both the structure, scheduling and content is appropriate. Please email me your feedback. You can simply answer these survey questions:

  • Is the technical level too high or too low or a good mix?
  • Are the thread topics selected pertinent to what you need to know?
  • What topics would you like to see covered?
  • Have you learned about things you would not have otherwise researched?
  • What was the most helpful article?
  • What examples would you like to see?
  • Is the format and language easy to read?
  • Is the format too long? too short? Too many items? too few?
  • Do you read the column each week? Have you read all of the columns?
  • Have you used the google search? Did it work for you?
  • What aspect of the community would be best served by this site?
  • What improvements or changes could you suggest?

While I am on sabbatical, please look forward to several Slony-I articles to be published at the O'Reilly OnLAMP site. Tidbits and the Archives will also be available for you, as usual.
